Forgotten Beats

Dear Thomas,

I am attaching the sound that this is probably about.
You are hearing the Earth's movement over three months, transposed exactly 19 octaves.

You will hear two sharp cracks—these are two major earthquakes from December 2004. The last one is the Sumatra earthquake. I must warn you against listening at high volume, as the two cracks are very sharp. But once they have passed, you can turn up the volume and enjoy the Earth's pure reverberation, which is very close to the tone A (though in practice, it is A 19 octaves below).

The phenomenon is that the Earth swells for about 10 minutes and then shrinks for another 10 minutes. This oscillation mode is called the "breathing mode," and due to its perfect symmetry, the reverberation time is very long—in practice, several months.

Here is also a link to a PowerPoint presentation with many sounds. Extract everything into the same folder, and then the links should work when clicked.

Finally, you can listen to my old Natursyn broadcast from 2008. Here, we go through a whole series of Earth's sounds and resonances. Don't expect beautiful new-age sounds—this is more of a chaotic stomp shop. But that's just how reality is.

I hope this gives you something to work with. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,
Bo Holm Jacobsen

Forgotten Beats

In August 2016 the Danish politician and leader of the political party Alternativet Uffe Elbæk asked the composer, musician and event maker Thomas Agergaard to become artist in residence at the Danish Parliament in Christiansborg.

Agergaard immediately accepted, proposing to create a sound installation based on recordings of the heartbeats of Danish politicians.

The sound installation is sponsored by the famous Danish loudspeaker company Artcoustic.

My sound installation was supposed to have a text page.
The sitting Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen (2001-2009) had previously banned experts and taste makers.
I chose for my text page to be a series of meetings with experts where topics with a central agenda in our present-day society were discussed.
The topics for this series of meetings should be selected by experts.
I was very ambitious and thought about 24 meetings, as my sound installation was planned to be played in Christmas 2016.
Christmas is the festival of hearts.
It turned out to be far too ambitious.
But I got started, I managed to get the Danish Parliament's logo inserted into the emails I sent from my office at Christiansborg.
It turned out to be very effective; everyone replied quickly.

The topics I managed to organize meetings around were:

Glacier MealOne meeting I managed to organize was with Minik Rosing (Professor of Geology at the University of Copenhagen). The topic was the mineral-rich Glacier Meal, of which there are enormous amounts in Greenland. At the meeting, an agreement was made to experiment with glacier meal in the fertile Danish soil at Lundsgaard Manor near Kerteminde. It is photos from that meeting I am posting here, because the results have only really come now, which can be heard in the DR program Gold and Green Forests.

The Green GDP with Professor Jens Hoff from KU
Jens Villiam Hoff and I had a meeting with... and led the green GDP, you joined the international group here, and Jens received 4.9 million for a PhD and a Postdoc.
Ole Gravlund from Statistics Denmark, who is involved in the project, also attended the meeting.

It is a cornerstone of the entire green transition of society to consider what it really costs to produce this or that, what does it cost with too much nitrogen in our waters, what is the cost of widespread bee death from pesticides, what does it cost to close water wells, etc. etc.

The EU and the UN are among those pushing for the green GDP... but governments are staunchly conservative, and GDP is as black as it is today!

MRSA
Here I managed to organize a large meeting.
Participants:
Hans Jørgen Kolmos, OUH, Odense University Hospital, Professor of Microbiology.
Christian Christensen (Rep. Coop and Retail)
Consumer Council TÆNK (Camilla Udsen)
3F participated with Vagn Henriksen and Jesper Lund Larsen
Christian Poll - Alternativet

Social Control in Our Society
A small, intense meeting that today still stands out clearly in my mind; it was a very sensitive and heart-wrenching meeting.
Several participants chose to attend anonymously.
But FAKTI, with Lise-Lotte Duch, participated among others. FAKTI is a shelter for immigrant women in Brønshøj.
